FOSTER HOME INFORMATION

Taking care of and loving an animal as your own and then adopting your friend out to a new home is a difficult task for all of us. On the other hand, it is very rewarding to know that you have helped a wonderful animal find its forever home. If you believe you have what it takes to be a loving caring foster parent, please read through the requirements thoroughly and submit a Foster Home Application. Please start the process by email (hscc.adoptions@gmail.com).

FOSTER HOME REQUIREMENTS

Foster parents must be able to fulfill the following duties:
  • Allow the foster animal to act as a member of the family
  • Allow the foster animal to be inside, especially in the evenings/nights. Fosters are not "outside only" animals. No exceptions.
  • Be willing to accept an untrained foster animal and assist in the training of the foster animal. Foster families must follow any training recommendations The Humane Society of Caroline County suggests.
  • Follow the feeding directions set forth by The Humane Society of Caroline.
  • Adequately exercise and socialize the foster animal.
  • Administer any and all medications needed and provide care to "special needs"
  • Keep the foster animal clean/groomed and in a presentable condition
  • Transport the foster dog to and from vet appointments as deemed necessary. (Assistance with this is available).
  • Possess some animal experience
  • Families new to fostering must meet at their home with the foster/adoption coordinator prior to fostering
  • If the foster family lives in a rental, written consent from the landlord must be provided
  • If the foster family has other pets, all pets must be altered, current on vaccines, and on flea prevention. Additionally, the foster family must be willing to agree to a socialization interview with the other pets before placement
  • Sign a volunteer agreement stating that the foster home is willing to follow the above mentioned requirements
  • All food is supplied, necessary vaccines and veterinarian costs are taken care of by the Humane Society of Caroline County.
